How to Get Candle Wax Out of Carpet

We all love having candles throughout the house. Our “529” Candle is the perfect compliment for your cooking space in the kitchen, keeping your bathroom fresh, or for late nights in the bedroom. With fragrance notes of sandalwood, orange blossom, ginger, amber, and saffron it lets you relive all the nostalgia of summer in every room.
But many of us have also had the unfortunate experience of spilling wax from our favorite candle, an accident that not only comes with the regret of wasted burn hours but also dealing with the sticky, quickly hardening wax into our floors and carpets. It can quickly coat and mix in with the carpet’s fibers, leaving us discouraged and unsure of how to remove it.
Thankfully, there are a few hacks for tending to your carpet even after a little wax spill. From ironing to homemade carpet cleaners, our luxury candle makers rounded up a few tips for removing tricky candle wax from your favorite rug.
How to Get Candle Wax Out of Carpet
Scrape the excess wax off first
Some candle wax can be removed by hand. Use a butter knife or other dull tool to remove as much wax as possible by hand, taking care to move carefully so as to avoid cuts or scrapes.
Use a vacuum to remove any loose pieces
Before dealing with more stubborn set-in wax, vacuum up any loose pieces so as not to rub them further into the rug.
Freeze the wax to deal with stubborn sections
If you’re having a tough time with softer wax, lay an ice pack directly onto the stain until the wax is as cold as possible. Cold wax is more brittle and therefore will be easier to remove without spreading. Once cold, you can try to carefully scrape the wax off.
Use an iron and paper bag or towel to heat the wax for removal
For the deepest stains, place a thick paper bag or inexpensive hand towel over the stain and use an iron at a low heat setting to move over its surface, working to absorb the melted wax into the bag or towel and replacing throughout the process as necessary. Make sure to test your iron temperature on the bag first, making sure it is low enough not to burn the paper and avoiding any direct contact between the iron and the carpet.
Use a carpet cleaning product
Special cleaning supplies intended for use on carpets can help remove some soy wax stains. You can even make your own natural cleaner using a few household ingredients, like those listed here.
Last resort: Rent a professional cleaning tool or hire a professional carpet cleaner
For those nearly impossible stains, sometimes it takes a special tool. Professional carpet cleaning machines and steamers are available to rent, or you can leave it to a professional and hire someone with the right expertise.
